Leading Through Connection: Izzy S.

Within Florida State University’s Panhellenic community, leadership is often associated with large events, recruitment, or public-facing initiatives. However, some of the most important work happens behind the scenes, through organization, communication, and intentional relationship-building. For Isabella S, the Panhellenic Vice President of Community Affairs, leadership is less about being in the spotlight and more about making sure the entire community has the support and structure it needs to succeed.

Izzy’s role centers around strengthening connections not only within Panhellenic, but across the entire Fraternity & Sorority Life community. Through her involvement in the FSL Unity Program, she works closely with representatives from all five governing councils: the Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, the National Pan-Hellenic Council, the Panhellenic Association, and the United Greek Council to promote collaboration and understanding between organizations that may not otherwise interact. By helping plan cross-council events and educating Panhellenic women about the broader FSL community, she plays a key role in fostering a culture of respect and unity that extends beyond individual chapters. 

“My position allows me to educate women in our community about all five councils and plan cross-council events,” Izzy says. “Being in this role has allowed me to meet so many amazing leaders in our community and contribute to Panhellenic’s growing successes.”

In addition to her work with unity programming, Izzy also oversees important aspects of Panhellenic’s philanthropic efforts. From approving chapter philanthropy event dates to ensuring activities align with Panhellenic bylaws, she helps maintain the structure that allows chapters to successfully support the causes they are passionate about. She also ensures transparency and communication within the organization by documenting Panhellenic meetings and distributing minutes to delegates after each meeting. While these responsibilities may not always be highly visible, they are critical to maintaining the organization and accountability that keeps Panhellenic running effectively.

Because so much of her work takes place behind the scenes, Izzy says one of the biggest misconceptions about her role is that it may appear less significant than other executive positions. In reality, her work focuses heavily on supporting the people and systems that allow the entire community to function. 

“A lot of my responsibilities happen behind the scenes, but the work I am most proud of is how I serve our constituent groups,” Izzy says. “Whether it’s facilitating unity chairs or distributing meeting minutes, I try to serve our community to the best of my ability.”

Izzy’s path to Panhellenic leadership began within her own chapter, where she served as a Junior Delegate early in her college experience. That role gave her early exposure to Panhellenic operations and allowed her to form connections with women from other chapters, which ultimately inspired her to pursue a larger leadership position. Those early experiences helped her understand the importance of involvement and showed her how leadership can create meaningful change within the community. Since stepping into the Vice President role, Izzy says the experience has shaped her personal growth just as much as her leadership development. Taking on such a significant responsibility taught her the importance of patience, intentional decision-making, and leading with passion. She credits both the position and the women she serves alongside on the Executive Board with helping her grow into a more thoughtful and purpose-driven leader.

“This position has changed me personally in ways I could not have imagined,” Izzy says. “I am changed for the better because of the role and the women I was lucky enough to meet within it.”

For Izzy, community engagement is not just part of her role – it is central to what Panhellenic represents. She believes that true sisterhood is built through collaboration, service, and a shared commitment to leaving a positive impact. By encouraging chapters to work together and remain engaged with the broader campus community, she hopes to help Panhellenic continue to serve as a model for leadership and service at Florida State. As she looks toward the remainder of her term, Izzy hopes to continue expanding cross-council collaboration by increasing unity programming and encouraging greater involvement among chapters. Her goal is simple: to continue building a Panhellenic community where connection, service, and collaboration remain at the forefront.

“Building a sisterhood is all about building community,” Izzy says. “Every member of our community plays a key role in how Panhellenic is perceived at Florida State University. It is important to continue being a model Panhellenic – one that welcomes collaboration and has a deep passion for service.”

Through her dedication to strengthening relationships and supporting the Panhellenic community from behind the scenes, Izzy demonstrates that leadership is not always about visibility – it is about impact. And through her work, that impact continues to shape a stronger, more connected Panhellenic community at Florida State.
